Johann Baptist and Dominikus Zimmermann, Count Robert Encounters St. Bruno

This fresco pictures an episode in St. Bruno's vita. Robert, who styled himself "Count of Calabria and Sicily," was hunting with his men one day when his dogs led him to the cave of St. Bruno. Recognizing the man's saintliness, Robert knelt before him. In the background of this fresco two of Bruno's companions are at their simple labors. They and he all wear the habit of the Carthusian order.
